This piece, chapter three, introduces you to “Mr. Fred” Altan, the kindergarten teaching friend of special education teacher Tom O’Shea, with some darkness and foreshadowing. All is not well with him. I probably won’t continue to say a lot interstitially about these pieces as I post them, hoping they speak for themselves, but some of them benefit from talk, because I guess, what I leave unsaid weighs heavily on them, like a wet buffalo blanket. Roundly speaking, this one left me with an aftertaste that teaching, for some, is unbearably lonely.
